Late flowering varieties for fiber production

This type of hemp consists mostly of very vigorous and late-flowering varieties.

Late dioecious hemp can reach a considerable height and they have a good fiber-biomass ratio. Because of their vigour it is often necessary to have specific equipment for cutting the plants.

Nowadays they are also used with good results for the production of floral biomass from which cannabinoids and secondary metabolites of high interest for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry can be obtained.

As a result of their vigour and late floweringthey generally accumulate more cannabinoids than other varieties.

Due to the low grain yield and the fact that they cannot complete the cycle profitably at all latitudes, the cost of certified seed for sowing is higher than other cultivar.

  • Historic Italian Dioiceus variety. The most cultivated and known in the past for the quality of long fiber derived. Can reach 7 m in height.
  • Monoiceus late flowering, French breed. On average it produces 300 kg / ha of grain in Italy but in optimal conditions there are production peaks of 500 kg / ha.
  • Late flowering dioiceus, Hungarian breed suitable for fiber and shives production as weel as floral biomass. On average it produces 500 Kg / Ha of grain, on average reaches 3 m in height showing good uniformity in the field.
  • Medium-late flowering monoiceus, French breed. Two varieties are ascribed to this type: the medium-flowering Santhica 27 and the slightly later-flowering Santhica 70. In terms of production they are similar even if Santhica 27 is more suitable for northern Europe while Santhica 70 can also be grown in lower latitudes such as northern Italy.
  • Probably the oldest European dioecious. Medium-late flowering, Hungarian breed suitable for production of fiber and shives, recently it has been used for the production of floral biomass.
